Brandon S. Neuman
Brandon Neuman’s practice focuses on advising businesses and individuals on complex commercial issues, ranging from strategic and risk management advice through aggressive bet-the-company litigation.
Brandon advises clients on all aspects of business operations, regulatory compliance, and complex commercial litigation. Brandon regularly serves as outside General Counsel for client institutions and businesses, where he manages a wide variety of legal matters such as internal investigations, audits, regulatory examinations, and other industry-specific matters. Brandon’s outside General Counsel practice includes representation of a number of financial institutions, where he has experience in managing litigation, addressing emergency regulatory issues, and working through board of directors and shareholder issues.
In addition to his general corporate representation, Brandon has extensive litigation experience representing clients in state and federal courts, including the North Carolina Business Court, and arbitrations, throughout the country. He has successfully handled complex commercial litigation, class actions, contract disputes, employment matters and other various technological issues facing businesses and individuals.
Brandon also represents broker-dealers, investment advisors, and other industry members in matters under the jurisdiction of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Brandon has both advised clients on compliance with various FINRA-related regulatory issues, as well as serving as litigation and trial counsel for clients involved in FINRA arbitrations.
In 2013, the Governor of North Carolina appointed Brandon as a Public Member of the North Carolina Banking Commission, the entity which regulates North Carolina’s State-chartered commercial banks, savings banks, savings and loan associations, trust companies, and other financial institutions operating in North Carolina. While serving a four year term on the North Carolina Banking Commission, he was the Chair of the Banking Rules Subcommittee and a member of the Virtual Currency Advisory Subcommittee. In 2015, Brandon completed the Bank Directors College at the University of North Carolina, Center for Banking and Finance.
In 2011, Brandon was given the 40 Under 40 Leadership Award by the Triangle Business Journal. In addition, Brandon was selected as a 2012 Leader in the Law by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and was included in the Legal Elite, 2012, by Business North Carolina Magazine. Brandon has a Preeminent AV® Peer Review Rating from the Martindale Hubbell International Law Directory. In 2015 and 2016 Brandon was recognized by North Carolina Super Lawyers as a “Super Lawyer”, and from 2010-2014 he was named by Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star”.
Prior to joining Shanahan McDougal, Brandon was in-house with the Fortune 500 Company, Gateway, Inc., in San Diego, California, where he provided strategic business advice and managed various complex commercial litigation matters. He later joined a large national law firm where he continued to handle cases involving complex commercial and business litigation.
