Shanahan Law Group is proud to announce that founder Kieran Shanahan has been elected Vice Chairman of the East Carolina University Board of Trustees. Shanahan, a 1979, cum laude graduate of ECU, has served on the board since December 2014. He also previously served on the board from 2011 to 2013. Shanahan will serve alongside newly elected Chairman, Steve Jones of Raleigh, and Bob Plybon of Greensboro, who will serve as secretary.

“As a student at ECU, I never dreamed I would have the honor to serve on the Board of Trustees, let alone be elected to serve in this leadership role,” said Shanahan, “this is an especially exciting time given that we have now been asked to find a new chancellor for the coming year.”

East Carolina’s current chancellor, Steve Ballard, announced that he would step down in 2016 following 11 years of service with the university. Ballard’s departure was just one of several changes discussed at the July 17th Board of Trustees meeting. Along with the election of Shanahan, Jones, and Plybon, the board also formally swore in new members, broke ground on a new student center, and heard updates on Heritage Hall, which will serve as a permanent place to recognize people of historical significance to the university. Shanahan will undoubtedly play a key role in these and many other advances at ECU in the coming years.
